Orthobiologics is a cutting edge breakthrough in medical care. Orthobiologics is changing the way we treat acute and chronic pain because these therapies can eliminate the need for major surgery. Instead of masking the pain with injection blocks or medication, orthobiologics can help heal the damaged tissue at its source.
Orthobiologics are undifferentiated cells that have the ability to replace dying cells and regenerate damaged tissue. A high concentration of these cells are obtained from the patient’s own bone marrow or fat tissues (adipose) or from a purified amnionic tissue. Our practice uses a sterile closed surgical process to obtain the orthobiologics. Once obtained, the cells are isolated with a specialized centrifuge and then injected into the painful area on the same day using special imaging to make sure the cells are placed exactly where they are needed.
Adult orthobiologic cells usually remain dormant unless they detect some kind of tissue injury. Then the ‘undifferentiated’ orthobiologic cells are called to areas of injury where they are capable of regenerating healthy cells. Sometimes our body’s own healing response is not enough. That's when a concentrated source of orthobiologic cells is needed. Orthobiologic therapy obtains high concentrations of cells to create an environment for the body to heal itself without the need for medications or steroid injections. When orthobiologic cells are injected into an area of injury, they enable the body’s natural healing processes to be dramatically accelerated. The cells can stimulate the formation of many different types of tissue including cartilage, tendon, ligaments, bone and fibrous connective tissues.

Each procedure usually takes less than one hour. Performed safely in our medical office, these therapies can relieve and heal the cause of pain without the risks or inconvenience of surgery, general anesthesia or hospital stays. Although vigorous activities such as running should be avoided for several weeks, most people return to their jobs the next day.
If you have a painful injury that is not healing and would like to avoid major surgery or if you are currently only masking pain through injection therapy or medication, stem cell therapy may be right for you. Because these procedures are relatively new, they’re still not covered by most insurances. Dr Zarembinski can meet with you to review your specific situation.
